**Join us in celebrating the contributions of LGBTQ+ Mathematicians in the lead-up to Wear it Purple Day this Friday 30 August!** Sophie Wilson is an English computer scientist and engineer, famous for her significant contributions in the world of computer science. She is best known for designing the Acorn Microcomputer and the ARM architecture, both of which have had lasting impacts in the modern world of computing. In the early 1980s, Wilson co-designed the BBC Microcomputer, which became a fundamental educational tool in the UK. In addition to this, she played a crucial role in developing the Acorn RISC Machine (ARM) architecture, revolutionising computer processing at a global scale. With her most significant impact with the ARM architecture, she helped create processors that could deliver higher performance with lower power consumption, which was vital for the development of mobile computing. Her involvement not only benefited hardware design, but also influenced software design. Sophie Wilson's innovations have a monumental impact on modern technology. Her contributions are essential to the efficiency of the technology that we utilise today. Additionally, as a female engineer in a predominantly male industry, she has been a key figure in inspiring other women in STEM to pursue their passions. ---------- **MUMS Wear it Purple Day Picnic** Date: Friday 30th August Time: 11:30 - 13:00 Location: Peter Hall Lawn Come to the MUMS Wear it Purple Day picnic to enjoy some food and fun while showing support for LGBTQ+ youth in Mathematics.
